Day 4: Full Day Private Tour to Roskilde and TrelleborgDeparting on a private first-class vehicle, together with a local authorised guide, the tour starts with a drive out of Copenhagen, heading west to the town of Roskilde.
First stop is the ancient Roskilde Cathedral where the Kings and Queens of Denmark have been crowned for hundreds of years and are entombed. The Cathedral on the ridge in the very heart of Roskilde is an extremely prominent feature in the town and the local landscape. There has been a church on this spot for more than a thousand years. In 1995, UNESCO added the Cathedral to its list of the world’s most precious cultural assets. It is one of the earliest examples of French-inspired, Gothic brick architecture, and the whole site exhibits a beautifully, harmonious unity.
After the Cathedral, the tour includes a visit to the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. The Viking Ship Museum offers a unique opportunity to experience Viking ships, the Viking Age, and life at sea. Five original 11th-century Viking ships, excavated from Roskilde Fjord in 1962, are on display in the Viking Ship Hall. The hall also houses an exhibition describing - hour by hour - a sea-borne assault on Roskilde by Vikings from Norway. Return trip back and end of visit.
Experience the Viking Age close at hand at the Viking fortress of Trelleborg, near Slagelse in West Zealand. Trelleborg, one of the great ring fortresses of the Viking Age, was constructed around the year 980 by King Harald Bluetooth.
