Overview

In the Mexican heartlands, where the sun shines year-round, San Miguel de Allende is waiting to capture your heart. The colonial-era city, located in the central highlands just three hours from Mexico City, beguiles with its baroque architecture enthralls with its thriving arts scene and makes your mouth water with its culinary creations.

Wandering down the cobbled Calle Hospicio, you may hardly notice a secret hideaway concealed behind ancient walls. But push open the wooden doors and you'll find yourself in a tranquil sanctuary all of your own. Welcome to Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond Hotel.

Consider this cluster of beautifully restored casas – colonial mansions – your own private enclave. Take time to explore all the secret spaces – enchanting courtyards and alfresco corridors, stone staircases leading to vaulted archways, and gardens filled with eye-catching succulents.

Treat yourself to a pampering ritual at the spa, dine on fiery and fragrant specialties in its two restaurants and, should they inspire you to master Mexican cuisine, join a class at their acclaimed cooking school, Sazón. Hone your creativity further with painting lessons in the park, led by their resident artist. As evening falls, the buzzing Blue Bar beckons. Linger over a glass of Mexican red or a cool cocktail, observing life roll by from the patio.

There's no need to watch the clock here: allow time to slow down as you ease into a more serene pace of life. Throughout this retreat, Mexican heritage and the vibrant art of San Miguel de Allende are celebrated. You'll find history woven into every stucco wall, tiled bath, and curved ceiling; each detail harmonized with modern indulgence.

    Accommodations

    Number of Rooms: 37

Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond Hotel, has 37 rooms and suites, distributed among six mansions, including Casa del Parque, located within a few minutes walking distance.

The design of the accommodations follows the original architecture and so no two rooms are identical in size and amenities. Each of the rooms and suites has its own individual décor but they all celebrate the spirit of San Miguel de Allende. They are characterized by the furnishings, art and antiques, exquisite fabrics, and richly colored Talavera-tiled bathrooms, that add a touch of charm.

Many rooms have working fireplaces (some have two), others boast private terraces with outstanding views of the city and some have both fireplace and terrace. Some of the Suites face onto the courtyards and gardens, while others have balconies and private plunge pools.

    Directions
San Miguel de Allende is ablaze with color. First founded 500 years ago, this colonial city glows with bright sherbert shades. Trickle along the winding cobbled roads. You’ll glimpse breathtaking scenery through narrow gaps in the architecture, as the land curves and rolls around the Sierra Madre mountains beyond.

By day the air fills with the sounds of church bells, the clip clop of horses hooves and, of course, the mariachis. After sunset, the city’s craft heritage comes alive. Electric lights illuminate the architecture, casting intricate shadows across neighboring facades. It’s clear why San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO world-heritage site and a shining gem among Mexico vacation spots.
